The prostate is a small walnut-sized gland in men that is responsible for producing semen that transports and nourishes sperm. Prostate cancer occurs when cells in this gland mutate and form unhealthy cells. Prostate cancer is one of the most common cancers in men with over one million cases occurring each year worldwide.

Prostate cancer usually grows slowly and is confined to the prostate. However, the condition can spread rapidly and in some cases can progress rapidly.

The male reproductive system includes the penis, seminal vesicles, testicles, and prostate. The prostate is located just below the bladder.
